Heart of Hadrian's Wall

...a day is never long enough

Greenhead

Location

Northumberland
England

Greenhead is a small village in the central section of Hadrian's Wall, just down the hill from the Roman Army Museum at Carvoran and Walltown Quarry, and a couple of fields away from Thirlwall Castle.

世界杯预选赛下注From the 18th century, the Greenhead area was mined for coal. Where the seams were near the surface, little drift mines were opened all over the surrounding hills. In the early 20th century, Greenhead supported a large population of miners, quarrymen, milliners and dressmakers, with shops, pubs, football teams, a cricket pitch and tennis courts.

Today Greenhead offers welcoming hostelries and tearooms offering meals, snacks and drinks as well as easy walks beside the river at Thirlwall.
世界杯预选赛下注Hadrian's Wall Farmers' Market is held in Greenhead on the 2nd Sunday of each month and offers a wide range of locally produced foods and crafts.
